1. Information we collect

Information you provide directly

When you create an account or use TabTap, we collect information you give us — such as your name, email address, and payment method details. We do not store full card numbers; payment processing is handled by our PCI-compliant payment partners.

Receipt and transaction data

When you scan a receipt, we process the image to extract item names, prices, and totals. This data is used solely to calculate bill splits and is not sold or shared with third parties for advertising purposes.

Device and usage information

We automatically collect certain technical information when you use the app — including your device type, operating system, IP address, and how you interact with features. This helps us improve performance and fix bugs.

2. How we use your information

To provide the service

We use your information to operate TabTap — processing receipt scans, calculating splits, facilitating payments, and sending you transaction confirmations.

To improve the product

Aggregated, anonymized usage data helps us understand which features are working and where we can do better. We never use individual receipt data to build advertising profiles.

To communicate with you

We may send you transactional emails (payment confirmations, security alerts) and, if you opt in, product updates. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.

3. Sharing your information

We do not sell your data

TabTap does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes. Full stop.

Service providers

We share data with trusted vendors who help us operate — payment processors (Stripe), cloud infrastructure (AWS), and analytics tools. These partners are contractually bound to protect your data and use it only for the services they provide to us.

Legal requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of TabTap, our users, or the public.

4. Data retention

How long we keep your data

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Receipt scan data is retained for 90 days to support dispute resolution, then permanently deleted. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.

Access and portability

You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you at any time by contacting [email protected].

Correction and deletion

You can update your account information directly in the app. To delete your account and all associated data, go to Settings → Account → Delete Account, or contact us and we will process your request within 30 days.

California residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of any sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information). Contact us at [email protected] to exercise these rights.

6. Security

How we protect your data

We use industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest) and access controls to protect your information. Our payment infrastructure is PCI DSS compliant. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable and appropriate measures to safeguard your data.

7. Cookies and tracking

What we use

TabTap uses essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. We use analytics cookies (with your consent) to understand how the app is used. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Your choices

You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may affect app functionality.

8. Changes to this policy

How we notify you

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you by email and display a notice in the app at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of TabTap after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
